Like everyone, I've got my complaints about Notre Dame—parietals (not being allowed in opposite gender dorm past midnight on a weekday / 2 am on a weekend) is rather ridiculous, the University as a whole tries to be far too Catholic for its own good, and as a liberal Democrat, I find the overall conservatism of the student body highly problematic… but that being said, I love Notre Dame. I love the family atmosphere here. I love my dorm. I love that I was given the chance to study abroad for a year, and taken on trips, and had a beautiful apartment arranged for me, and that everything will translate back. Despite not being that into sports, I love the tradition that permeates football Saturdays. There's no where I'd rather be, and no where else I can imagine myself. Notre Dame is NOT for everyone—you've got to visit to tell—but if it's for you, it's a truly amazing place. Overall, I'd say Notre Dame is kind of like your mother—old fashioned, too conservative, too overbearing, and not quite willing to admit that you're an adult… but still, your mother, and you love her despite all of that.
