Everything about this review is great and pretty spot on. With the exception of the Sorority "Law". There is no such law nor has such a law ever existed in any state, including Arkansas. They recently just opened, "Sorority Row" on Aggie Road which is gives a house for each sorority and 20 of each houses respective members. |
Major: Art & Design Department (This Major's Salary over time)
ASU is like a hidden treasure. It was even sited in the Newsweek Kaplan college catalog under several catagories including Best Value, Hidden Treasure, etc. At ASU, people are very friendly and most of the classes are interesting. ASU has a very strong honors program. I heard that the Honors Fine Arts Visual class goes to the Brooks Museum in Memphis every semester and also tours art studios as well as doing hands-on art projects. The honors Spanish class eats a traditional Spanish meal. And so forth. And the Fine Arts department is wonderful. The art department is a really close bunch of students because there's fewer of us than, say, Biology majors and so we see each other every day. And as far as extracurriculars, there's ALWAYS something to join and they don't exclude anyone. There's always posters up to join something. And there's always activities going on around campus—last year, there was everything from a hypnotist to Our Lady Peace to Salsa dancing to the Glenn Miller Orchestra to poetry slams. You can't get bored at ASU. :D I will be honest though, that if you're interested in greek life, ASU really isn't the place to go. Why? Well, for females, I'll just tell you that Arkansas has a state law that no more than 7 women can live in 1 house. So there are no sorority houses at ASU or any other Arkansas school. All the sororities have bad reputations and only 2 of the sororities are actually nice. Now about classes again. ASU has over 10,000 students, but most of the classes within your major will be quite small. The honors classes always have less than 15 students. So it's not so overwhelming. Now one other thing to be very frank about. Right now, ASU looks really cluttered. THey're building a parking garage and will soon start on a new Student Union. There was no real place to put either, so when these things are done, the campus will look REALLY cluttered and crowded. OTher than that, it's a nice campus.
