I've read some reviews about berea college being racist? Is this true |
Berea College is not necessarily racist or prejudice towards the students; however the town is. |
Berea College is not racist or prejudice towards the students; however the town is. If you are thinking about attending the college do your research. |
Thank you. If you dont mind me asking, whats your race? |
You are so welcome. I am black/Indian born and raised in the US. |
Do you still attend Berea? Are there a lot of blacks and other minorities on campus and in the town? |
I will be attending with a infant and I was told they offer a daycare for her. So I'm just asking these questions because I don't want her being mistreated because of her race and she isn't old enough to tell me what's going on |
I longer attend and there are a lot of blacks and other minorities at the college. However, the town is not that diverse. |
I am glad you are asking questions, I wish I had asked questions before I attended. Yes, they offer a daycare to students with children. The daycare is a caring place, so you do not have to worry about your child being mistreated. |
If you attend the college more than likely you will be living in the college owned apartments (if you choose) which are literally next to the daycare (walk is about five minutes). Also, if you had to walk to the daycare from campus it would take you about twelve minutes. |
I read a review somewhere that said you aren't able to work a real job due to school work and the work study jobs, which pay little. Is this true? |
Yes, that is true. You are not allowed to work off campus including during the summer if you are taking classes. The work study pay is very little (monthly pay), but while at Berea I got by fine. However, people with different circumstances will say other wise. |
I forgot to mention that if you decided to take classes during the summer term your pay would be higher. However, due to a higher term bill most of your check would probably go towards paying it off. |
Major: Other (This Major's Salary over time)
Berea College has a great mission statement, but the college is NOT for everyone. When I decided to attend the college I did not realize how unhappy I would become as time progressed. There are numerous of things that bothered me about the college and town, but I am going to briefly discuss a couple of them.First, in my department of studies I truly felt as though the professors did not care for me as a student and person (their actions spoke louder than their words). Second, many of the students are arrogant and depressing looking (and yes I am talking about Berea College studens). Lastly, I felt like a kid. I believe college is more than academics, but having the opportunity to grow in every other way that is not related to a letter grade. I can go on for days about Berea College and elaborate further on the things I talked about previously, but for the sake of this I am not.I must express I may not make sense and seem all over the place, but it will take you attending the college to see.If I can give any advice to prospective students it would be PLEASE do your research before coming here and do not let the lack of money be the only reason you apply. Also, if you come from a large, diverse, and fun city be prepared for the worse experience of your life. The only semi-fun thing to do in Berea is go to Wal-Mart.
