If you are going into engineering, business or play sports, then LSU is the school for you! The unofficial name Louisiana Sports University is actually more accurate than the official name.

The LSU administration seems more concerned with their self proclaimed status as a "flagship university" than with actual academics or the student body as a whole. While at the same time they have the puppet student senate who make arbitrary new academic rules which apparently to them seem to make complete sense, but are not well thought out relating to how it will effect all students and not just a focused few.

LSU has a beautiful new addition to its football stadium as well as a new addition to its basketball stadium which will be finished shortly. There is also a very nice academic center for student athletes which is one of the nicest and most up to date buildings on campus, but alas most of the student body is unable to use these fine facilities.
One of the other newer and up to date buildings that I've found on campus is the one housing business and engineering, but the building is apparently not suitable for the said departments, because LSU is currently building a new business building. If you are thinking of attending LSU for a business degree then you can look forward to a nice new building, however if you are looking to attend LSU for another major such as English prepare yourself for a building with visible pipes, duct work and networking wires running along the walls and ceilings. And (men) if you love urinating in an open trough when nature calls then do I have the university for you.

LSU is considered a walking campus which means that all roads in the interior of campus are off limits. Plan on a 10-15 minute walk to your class if you show up 1 1/2 to 2 hours early for class or an additional 5-10 minutes in the hot Louisiana heat if you show up later. Be glad that your $90+ parking fee is going toward more barricades and parking restrictions.
Be warned that LSU has extremely aggressive parking officers. Don't expect any sympathy that you showed up late (less than 2 hrs early) for first day of class and couldn't find a parking spot. Parking anywhere outside the painted lines WILL land you a nice little parking fine. The ticket writers cover each lot at least once every hour (yes they're very efficient at their job) and they seem to relish their performance according to posts by actual LSU parking officers which I recently read on an LSU parking face book page.
The English staff as a whole has been excellent. I have liked all of my English professors and think they do a fine job, and I applaud them for working with such a close-minded administration.

LSU Spanish department is horrible, out of the five instructors I have had only two were good teachers, the other teachers could barely speak English correctly and had such a poor grasp of the language that the effect of trying to teach simple grammatical usage leads to great confusion. It seems that they think if they talk slower and louder that the confused students will understand what they mean. I know there are benefits of having native speakers to teach a language such as correct pronunciation, but it is my experience in a classroom situation that having a teacher who has learned the language and can share common tips and traps which they encountered is far more effective and beneficial.
If I had a time machine to go back to the beginning of my college career, I would without a doubt pick another university.
