Major: Computer Science (This Major's Salary over time)
I transferred to BU my Sophomore year, and I must say, I am in love with this school. It's hard to pin down just one characteristic of BU that really satisfies me; rather, I think of BU as an orchestra in which different traits work together to form a beautiful whole. It is the combined impact of a tenacious faculty, thriving spirit, and the present opportunity at BU that makes this university truly sing. But I'll spare you the flowery language and get down to specifics.Faculty: Don't expect to walk into class 5 minutes late everyday and be greeted warmly. Some of the top researchers in the country teach in the classrooms of BU, and with that kind of elite faculty comes a trace of arrogance. This arrogance is, for the most part, relegated to the professors of the upper-level classes within each major, so you are unlikely to encounter it during your first few years at BU. You must understand, though, that some of the people teaching at BU actually are hot shit, and their arrogance is, to some degree, warranted. Additionally, as long as you are serious about your academic work, you won't have to worry about bringing out the arrogance within your professor. You wouldn't walk into Isaac Newton's class late, would you?Just one more word on the arrogant downside of BU faculty: don't get wrapped up in the demeanor of the conductor or you'll miss the symphony's beautiful crescendo. The faculty at BU, through some kind of black magic no doubt, has the distinct ability to actually make you learn. And not just learn in the kind of way, but learn in the sense of acquisition: in the sense of mastering your major while leaving no questions unanswered and no rocks unturned. The end result is that over time you come to realize the intricacies of that which you study and, in a weird kind of way, you start to see why these people go through the trouble of teaching you everyday: they honestly want to see you excel. My professors have bent over backwards for me so that I could meet the deadline on a lengthy project, or complete a difficult assignment on time, and many of my professors have thrown deadlines out the window in the name of receiving quality work. I don't know how much I can stress this until you stop reading, so I'll lay it out real clear: the faculty at BU can guide you to fame or dismiss you as a miscreant, but it all depends on how much you want to succeed.Ack, I've got to get back to my essay. That's another thing about BU: there is a homework requirement, haha. I might write more later. Good luck, whoever you are, in finding a school that suites you.D
