Unless you have around $100,000 to pay for this school out of pocket, or you are that one rare student who ends up with an excellent aid package that includes lots and lots of grant money, do not go to this school. The other comments are right on the nose; Emerson is indeed a business masquerading as an institute of higher learning. They cater to the children of the super wealthy who want to send their offspring to a school of some repute (Emerson's being completely unearned, btw) and are perhaps fearing that they couldn't cut it at a more challenging school like Boston University. That said, you can learn at Emerson, but you must be super motivated, take advantage of the every last offering the school has, and not just sit back and expect that just being a strong student in the classroom will get you by- the education is in the extra-curriculars. Many of your classmates will be snobby, egotistical actor types suffering from severe narcissism. Most of them will have no concept of actual ‘work’. There are also some cool, liberal, and fun kids thrown in the bunch too, though. Emerson used to be a gathering place for freaks of all sorts, and thus served as a wonderful point for all the weirdoes to converge and create. Unfortunately, the school is now becoming just another place in Boston for girls with flat-ironed hair to trot around wearing designer jeans and toting Prada handbags. Emerson has a couple of gems though- the external programs. Castle Well, in the Netherlands, serves as the College's European campus. If you attend Emerson, you MUST do a semester at the Castle. The teachers and classes are far better than anything on offer in Boston, the location is unbelievably gorgeous, and the opportunities for travel are nearly unparalleled. The LA program allows students to work as interns in various places in Los Angeles, from movie studios to magazines, positions that many turn into full-time careers. That aside, when it comes to Emerson, the frustrations are high. The financial aid is crap. The red tape is unbelievable. The education only so-so. For the money (or even for about a third of it) you can do far better. Don't waste your life or your bank account here.
