Major: Nursing (This Major's Salary over time)
This review is regarding the BOSTON campus NURSING program. I am finishing up my second semester at MCPHS. In my nursing classes, we're basically just a number. You would think that after first year, you would get some more specialized attention in order to gain insight into the profession you're about to be entering. Well this is false - both of my current nursing classes have the entire cohort of 120 students in them, and coming out of this semester I've had to teach myself so much. The professors spend so much time bitching about how everyone talks and nobody pays attention more than they actually teach. I am also not impressed with the credentials of my professors. I am taught by MSN prepared nurses who I feel just don't want to be working in the hospital setting anymore. I don't see a passion for teaching in any of them, and this is really frustrating considering they're going to be my professors for the remainder of my tenure here. I believe there are only a few professors with a DNP or PhD which I have yet to have. I'm not saying that someone with an MSN shouldn't be teaching me, but I do expect a level of passion in your teaching and this certainly isn't the case here. I just don't feel that I could comfortably talk to any of them. They just expect so much, but at the same time could care less about you. Our dean literally believes she is God sent, but I don't really care since she is in Worcester most of the time anyway. I don't want to go into detail with the other sections of the school because I don't really know much about them. But I do know how the School of Nursing works and it isn't at all what I expected. I would switch out of the school but at this point I just want my degree to start working as a nurse and this is the quickest way to make that happen. The school is really small, facilities are small, and is really business like and professional, and while this isn't a good thing I have to admit its what attracted me to the school. I'm the kind of person that just wants an education, I don't necessarily care about clubs, sports, etc. But that being said, the educational aspect is now letting me down. I wouldn't recommend this school, well specifically, the nursing BSN program.
