I came to Mount Holyoke looking for a school that has a strong campus community independent of its surroundings (as in, not a city - something this survey clearly disfavors but that was very important to me) where being intelligent is valued and students are supportive of each other. I wanted a school that is diverse and international (we are ranked #4 among liberal arts colleges for most international students) and I really liked the idea that Mount Holyoke is part of the 5-College Consortium so that I would have all the resources of a large university but the feel of a small college. Finally, the alumnae are fiercely devoted and incredibly supportive of current students. They can be really helpful for networking and finding jobs after college.I love it here. I am about to graduate and I cannot express how much this school has come to mean to me. A women's college is not for everyone, but for those open to the idea, it can be a transformative and wonderful experience. More than other schools, a women's college is really what you make of it. If you throw yourself into it wholeheartedly, you will have an amazing time. A lot of people have a sort of love/hate relationship with it, so I would definitely advise visiting and if possible, doing an overnight before committing.
