Mount Holyoke is not for everyone. No college is for everyone. We are so very fortunate that our collegiate system is full of a wide variety of colleges and universities so that you can find the campus that is truly home for you.Mount Holyoke is that home for me. First and foremost, in a college I was looking for academic rigor. MHC is an incredible college - a research liberal arts institution. The faculty here know that, as a student at MHC, you are capable of stellar work in the classroom, and they expect you to produce this work. If you want easy As, this isn't the place for you. If you want a college that will challenge you, every day, both in and out of the classroom, where you will learn about the world, stretch your potential as an individual and as a student, then this is it. I'm from a big city (yeah Philly!) and I was a bit unsure about coming to Western MA for college, but now that I am here I can't imagine myself being happy elsewhere. Not only is the region gorgeous, the implications of attending a non-urban college are under-appreciated in their importance: here, the social life stems *from the campus* and not from the surrounding city/town. Student groups are active, passionate, and constantly producing activities, shows, art, local community service, lecture speakers, etc. There is no avoiding the concerns and interests of your peers, and this is marvelous because it makes you become a more well-informed, experienced person.
