I am just completing my first semester at UMass Amherst.

Frankly, I was attracted to UMass Amherst because of it's low cost and reputable social scene. I have always gotten good grades all throughout high school and I could have gone to a number of other schools but could not afford it.

Umass Amherst is great for any type of person. No matter who you are, with the 25,000 people on campus, you are bound to find some close friends and a great learning experience. There are so many interesting classes to take and the professors are so passionate about what they teach.

A great thing about being a freshman at UMass is that you can choose to be in a dormitory that is themed by your interest or major, thereby giving you an automatic connection with the people you are living with. Making friends is easy, even for a shy person like me.

Class work and home work is pretty hard at UMass Amherst but most classes design their curriculum so that you can do 8 out of 10 assignments and still have a chance at 100%, granted you do perfectly on 80% of your assignments. If your printer is dead, or you deleted your paper, or something horrible like that happens, you don't have to freak out about it demolishing your grade in the class.

One criticism: beware of how politically charged this school is. This school is not for people without a knowledge of politics. If you are one of those people who don't think politics are important or aren't smart enough to understand them, don't come here. The professors will try to brainwash you into their ultra-liberal point of view!
