I was recently admitted to the school and am thoroughly unimpressed. Upon beginning you of course need to to make an appointment with an advisor; the advisor I met was completely clueless and rude. She was not aware of the college had online classes; she made me take math placement tests even though it was completely unnecessary as I am transfer student and later she forgot our appointment if you can believe that and as result I was unable to search and register for classes. For those reading let me give you a piece of advice; do not wait a month or two months before classes start because you will NOT because classes will be full. Every course I need to take except one was full; different days and time. It is easy to conclude that the school is understaffed; especially after losing a 100 million dollars from their endowment.
Thankfully I found a simple solution; the night and online classes were open. However the university has some abstruse policy which does not allow you more than one online/evening course unless you receive permission from the school. So the register's office denied me permission however a provost promised he would allow it after checking into it and asking me to meet with another advisor.
However due to a slow moving and confused administration 3 weeks later I am still trying to sign up for classes. It is my first semester at the college; my financial aid is being cut and the school is preventing me from taking classes.
Despite being a new student I already dislike this college immensely and as such I do not recommend the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
