| UMaine
is what you make of it, as is any college.
Coming from out of state, it is hard to make
friends at first, but I along with most other out
of state students became involved on campus and made friends
that way. Maine is Maine. Coming from out of state,
I am biased against trees, and the weather. But it
is a good change of pace as well. Campus does
get a little boring at times if you are under
21, but anyone would expect this coming into it, you
aren't in the middle of Boston or NYC. Academics here
are hit or miss. I'm an Education major, and the
Education program here is excellent. Engineering is excellent, and I
know quite a few English majors who enjoy their program
as well. Beyond that, I do not know a whole
lot about the Academic scene. The Dorms and Food are
the worst part of UMaine. The newest dorms are from
the 70s, and the oldest are well, really old. We're
talking about early 1900s. While they're nothing extravagant, they do
serve their purpose. Food has been and always will be
my biggest complaint on campus, along with most of the
people I know. Its not even the quality of the
food, its the selection. They have a limited selection of
food compared to other universities of similar size, and that
is something they really need to work on. Financially, it
is expensive for coming from out of state, and tuition
is being raised while they are cutting professors and programs.
Would I come here again? Probably. I do not regret
coming here. But if I could do it again, I
would go some place warmer. Its not that it's too
cold, it's just cold for too long a period of
time. Winter often starts in October and might not end
till April. So make of it what you will. Overall,
college is what you make of it, where ever you
go, because there really is not such thing as the
perfect school.
