This
is my HONEST opinion of NU...no sugar coating at all.
I transferred to NU a couple years ago. NU is good and bad in different categories. When it
comes down to education, Northwood is one of the best.
They provide you with detailed classes and real life
experiences. Most professors are kind and willing to help
during their office hours. Other professors are extremely rude
and could care less about you and just want to
get through the term (there are only a select few
of these). I do have trouble with professors here
and there when trying to e-mail them. Sometimes they
won't e-mail you back until it's too late if they
even get back to you at all. Small class
sizes help out. I have heard from numerous faculty
and graduate students that employers love students from NU. NU has a TON of connections for jobs. The
acamademic advisors here are terrible. They are always “busy”
which actually means they are really lazy or always out
to lunch. Very crabby as well. Financial aid
is hard to come by, but that's because of the
current economy. More and more students are finding their
funding getting cut. NU is expensive but most students
don't really know why. When you attend NU, you
are fully covered in health insurance. They are continueously
refreshing or building new buildings on campus. They have
everything paid off in full.
The social life here is so terrible. If you're
not in the Greek life or an athlete don't even
come here! You will not fit in no matter
how cool you are. There are parties all the
time here, but like others have said, it's either Greek
only or just athletes getting together. Men's sports and
frat boys DO NOT get along. NU's sports department
is growing and in the past hasn't been very good
but all the programs are rebuilding and some have had
great success (women's basketball, men's baseball). There are a
number of intermural sports like flag football, co-ed volleyball, and
dodgeball. The workout facilities are pretty nice as well.
They have a main exercise room in the lower
level of the Hach and a heavy weight room (mainly
for the athletes)upstairs in the Bennett Center. The campus
isn't very big but it works out during the winter
when there is a ton of snow and it's redicoulously
cold out...you don't have to walk as far. The dorms
here are very old style and are pretty small (4
students to one full bathroom). Midland as a city
is alright. They have Dow Diamond for the Loons
baseball team which is pretty fun to go watch.
They also have a nice downtown with a couple nice
bars. Dow Chemical and Dow Corning are also in
Midland and they are always looking for interns from NU and Delta.
