Don't
buy the propaganda. Don't give in to the low
price. Don't go here. If underachieving is
your goal, Oakland gives you the perfect road map to
your failure. The campus is poorly maintained. Buildings
are ancient, dingy, ugly, uncomfortable and some contain asbestos.
The sidewalks are in atrotious shape; crumbling, uneven real tripping
hazards. The exterior of most buildings are stained and
grimey (from acid rain?) lending to the campus's overall “Soviet
Era” appearance.
Probably 80 percent or more of
the faculty in the math and engineering departments speak unacceptable
English (oh, but diversity is good! Not!). Do not
take math here, ever.
Registering for classes is
an exercise in futility, as the computer system sucks.
Classes in the Journalism department are tiny, offered at terribly
inconvienent times (one night per week lasting until 10:00 pm!)
and fill up all too fast leaving you struggling to
manually sign yourself into classes, if you can find a
class you need, at the right time and with space
available (impossible!).
Being a commuter school, Oakland offers no social
activites, no night life, no friends and no fun.
This school seems to turn the college experience into a
lifeless nightmare. A nightmare that makes you want to
rip your hair out in clumps and run for the
door.
Parking is another issue. Good luck
finding a spot if your classes are at odd times,
you'll be lucky to find a space in the next
county.
Overall this school falls flat on it's face in
so many areas. The overall feeling of the “Oakland
Experience” is one of anger and dispair. I feel
like less of a person for going here.
So, do yourself a favor, pony up the cash and
go to MSU.
