Major: Education (This Major's Salary over time)
The Education program is one of the best program around and I chose Avila for that specific reason. However, there are flaws, many of them. The School of Education is very out to date on not only their policies for student teachers but also the way classrooms are run in today schools. Student teachers are required to wear slacks, skirts, blouses and shells…. If that doesn't answer why the policy is out of date, I don't know what will. Also the student teacher advisors clearly have an unrealistic view of how classrooms are in schools today, specifially with incorporating technology. And being at Avila for several years, and now out teaching, it is apparent to me that Avila has no intention of using, or teaching their students the technology available in todays classrooms. For heavens sake, I learned how to use an Overhead Projector in my Math Methods course. On a brigther note, there is a new dean, and I hear that he is younger and hopefully going to be sprucing up and updating the School of Education.
