Its a great place to go if you want to bury yourself in your book and memorize the pages. The Professors don't care much. UNCC is a research university after all, so most of their time is spent researching. Teaching is a way to pay the light bill. Business faculty are either businessman from the community teaching at night or have this '!@#$ off' face. You don't feel comfortable approaching them and even when you do its uneventful. Some departments are better, specifically more of the arts and sciences departments. However, you definitely get the feeling from most classes that if you don't 'get it' than your basically on your own. Its unfortunate but it is a side effect of becoming a research institution. I wish I had gone to NCSU or App… I suspect UNCC has the typical social atmosphere of most colleges. There are cliques and groups and losers and winners etc… UNCC is close to uptown so if you are into clubbing than this is the place for you. But it also has the typical frat parties and dorm throw downs. Don't expect traditions though. UNCC has none. There will be no big bonfire, tailgating or huge homecoming game. There is no football. There is generally a lack of student spirit. There are a couple spirit cliques but you don't feel like a UNCC 49er when your attending school. Come to think of it, I don't even remember any kind of appeal for spirit. Probably because we don't have any major sports team, although I went to a baseball game once and it seemed like the school gets hyped up about baseball. Overall, if you need a degree to hang on your wall and you don't care what you have to do to get one, apply today and graduate tomorrow.
