First of all, the dorm buildings that are on the less expensive side have no screens, there are roaches in the bathrooms and sometimes in your room even if you aren't a messy person. The dorms are not a bad size though and the furniture you get is in pretty good shape and is rather nice. The mattresses are pretty old looking though. Secondly, the cafeterias that you get meals from don't usually have very good food. It is very seldom that the food is cooked correctly or that it is worth your money. The cafeteria workers are mostly unfriendly and rude and seem to wish they worked somewhere else. A lot of times I have had to eat my cereal with a fork which doesn't really seem like a big deal at first, but if you think about the amount of money that we spend on food, this shouldn't be happening. If you look online at a menu, it is usually wrong. The food here does not have a lot of variety. Also, barely anything is open late. The cafeterias stop letting people in at 8 which is bad for the people who have late classes. Wendys is basically your only option past 8 o'clock and it is only open until 11. Next, is the parking situation. A parking pass costs $140 for the summer which is only about 2 and 1/2 months. For the whole year a parking pass is over $250. Compared to Chapel hill this isn't bad but we don't go to a school anywhere close in statute to Chapel hill so this is expensive! Also, the classes like anywhere fill up really fast at registration so you have to be on the ball with that. About a 1/4 of the teachers I've had are barely understandable. They either have really strong accents, can barely speak English at all, or both. We are getting a new football team in the fall of 2013 which I feel like the students were never asked their opinion of getting. Probably most students would have said that they don't want to have to pay for it considering most of the ones paying are going to be graduated by the time football starts. Our tuition is definitely being raised because we apparently need a football team a.s.a.p. There isn't much to do at UNCC outside of classes as well. If you want to join a club or organization then you basically have to search for one because the information isn't usually handed to you unless it's something about going to a club in downtown Charlotte. On that note, the security here is not very good. There have been three times in the past two semesters that people have asked for me to donate something to an organization that doesn't exist and it has turned out to be fraud. Please pay attention to your surroundings! Also students easily can smoke anywhere and are not reprimanded even though there are obvious signs telling them where they can smoke. The online website is very confusing and hard to navigate if you're looking for something specific as well. Most days I just feel like I am spending too much money for a school that is not even up to mediocre standards. The education you will get is good, but just about everything else is not. I feel like there is barely anywhere that students can voice their opinions about this school, which is not good and very frustrating.
