Major: Chemistry (This Major's Salary over time)
UNCC is as previously stated, a growing university. Its engineering and chemistry programs are as of right now top notch with its engineering program rated by some employers as higher than NCSU mainly because of the Jr. and Sr. Projects done before graduation and the method of learning for the science departments are more open for the student to explore and be proactive rather than strictly follow tradition and curriculum.

The school is underrated and actually looked down upon by people because it had a reputation of being a slacker, loser, dropout school. That is actually changing with the recent changes going on I feel that connotation will be wiped away fairly quickly.

However the school's math department could use some work, I have no problems understanding accents (English is my third language) but some professors tend to teach solely from the book or teach in a way that is often confusing for the students. Also some professors tend to be condescending but that can be encountered at any university regardless of prestige.

As a freshmen chemistry major, I already have an internship that is highly respected in its field (Pavco Inc.) and get a whole crap ton of advice from the professors about how to think of applications for lessons, how to ask for a spot in a professor's lab and what is possible with my degree. Honestly despite the fact that a few of the professors are a tad bit condescending towards unmotivated students, they do offer a ton of help and are approachable, if you make the right impression!

Charlotte's night life is great but the night life around the university is very limited, mainly because University City is a small little community that is actually growing as Downtown Charlotte expands outward. Like the University, Charlotte is booming which means soon, night life for UNCC will be a little more fun. Now to fix the problem of students like myself that commute a LOT.

Overall I like this school and plan on staying to get my masters then move to another school for my doctoral mainly because of the internship, professors in my field of study and the community that I grew up in (Charlotte born and raised).
