If you?re thinking about going here please read my comment. I?m writing this review here because I almost didn't attend this school due to the bad ratings on this site. I?m positive that most of the bad reviews on this site are from people who are stuck up and thought that college was going to play out like it does in the movies. That being said I?m going to address some of their arguments. The number one complaint is that it is a commuter school. Although this is true, there is an easy fix, live off campus. There are tons of apartment complexes around the school and most have really good rates. A lot cater directly towards students and have 4 bedrooms and 4 baths in one unit with inclusive rates at $325. This option is a lot cheaper than living on campus, and your roommates will keep you company. Also I suspect it will improve soon since UNCC is moving up in the ranks. Another complaint is that it?s not safe here. I would like anyone to point out a college campus were there hasn't been some sort of violence. If you look the majority of ?violent acts? that happened here are where people put themselves in dumb situations. In other words keep out of trouble and you won?t find trouble. Next argument is you?re just a number here. First of all, you?re attending a school with over 26,000 students; if you want a ?small college? feel then go to a small college, that simple. I disagree with this argument altogether because if you feel like that it?s your own fault. All professors have office hours where you can go talk to them one-on-one, there are tons of personalized resources such as tutoring and workshops. There are also a lot of clubs and organizations. So, if you?re feeling like just a number it?s more than likely because you?re not doing anything. Those were the major arguments I found throughout the reviews. Here are some points of my own. UNCC is a beautiful school and I find the students and staff to be very friendly. It is a research school meaning its staff is here to do research, not just teach. Although this can be a downfall for obvious reasons, it can also be beneficial because you can join in on the research and get valuable experience while getting paid. I really enjoy it here, I feel like I?m getting a great education at a lot cheaper cost than similar schools. Don?t be fooled by the reviews here, go to other sites such as college prowler and rate my professors has a section dedicated to campus reviews. Overall this is a great up-and-coming school. Just remember, you get out of college what you put into it.
