I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy my years here, but it hasn't necessarily been because of the university. I enjoyed some the people I've met here a lot more, but the university isn't as terrible as everyone says it is either. The English department, at least, has excellent professors, and I'm glad I've had the chance to learn from them. I agree, however, that UNCG lets just about anyone in and the student body, on average, is pretty dumb. There will be people in every class who will raise their hands and share (many of) their life stories, and the teacher will just let them no matter how irrelevant they are. I am annoyed by the people in my classes more often than not, but that's not to say that everyone at UNCG is dumb. I've met some exceedingly intelligent students here as well, and they make the classes you take more challenging and less mindnumbing. That being said, I did have one class here where we spent the entire class period discussing the difference between words and pictures. That English class is NOT the norm. I would say the biggest thing holding this college back is its lack of a social life. People do just go home on the weekends, and that sucks. If UNCG was more selective, then maybe the quality of the student body would be better, and possibly more exciting. Even this review site is littered with closed-minded people - "everything here is geared towards African-Americans" or something. This college is what you make it. Most of the students refuse to be challenged.
