Coming to Dartmouth is the best decision I've made thus far in my life. The quality of the education that everyone receives, coupled with the close student-faulty interaction and fellowship fostered on the New Hampshire Campus makes for a unique experience in and of itself. However, as has been my experience, the friendships you make at Dartmouth and the tone of the campus through which these friendships are formed, and the boundlessness of off-campus and research opportunities makes the Dartmouth Experience the best college experience in North America and perhaps the world. Truly, Dartmouth's brilliant faculty and student body, and the connections you make with them—and such a beautiful environment—inspires a love of collaboration and creativity. True, the winters are cold and the location is far from a metropolis, but the great atmosphere—collegiate, yet laid back and very safe—makes up for that and Boston and Montreal are only two hours away north and south. About 65 percent of the student body at Dartmouth studies abroad at least once, and the number is going up, so Dartmouth's education is definitely international and affords students to get a real cultural education without extra expense and hassle to themselves given that most of Dartmouth's study abroad programs involve going with a Dartmouth professor (who you probably have met beforehand) and about 15 other Dartmouth students, some of whom you're bound to know. Oh, and I'm from the south and I didn't have any trouble with the winters. It's pretty straight forward: buy quality clothing, wear layers, and make sure you dress to accommodate your own biology as everyone's body reacts differently to extreme weather conditions.
