A solid education—I'm not sure today's tuition costs are worth it—they're steep, even allowing for inflation. A good growing regional reputation, that Tom Kean helped increase. People in the Northeast have certainly heard of it and while it hasn't opened doors like an Ivy league diploma might, it's viewed with respect. I was on a 3/4 scholarship (academic merit) and that helped a lot. Double majored English & History with women's studies minor. Yes, a good variety of people there, tho' the stuck up prep school types got annoying. NYC's only 1/2 hr. away by bus or train so the world's at your feet. Junior semester abroad I recommend, and it's a small enough school that you can hang out with 2-3 different cliques—The theatre people, the feminists, the eco-tree huggers or college republicans and no one's going to shun you for that. Or at least they didn't in the early '90s. Super teachers for the most part (I did have a few ghastly newish faculty as profs)—and v. helpful outside class time. They care, it's a small enough school you're known as an individual but not so small you're in a goldfish bowl. I'd go there again, and yes, I'd agree service is seen as important so maybe that's why so many of us work in public service/govt/ nonprofit venues… after all, it was started as a theological school in 1867! The poli-sci program is strong, as were English and history. In the late 80s/early 90s the Psych. and Educ. majors (with nearby St. E's and Fairleigh) were something of a joke, maybe that's changed…
