Montclair State University has it's positives and negatives. However, if I were to give advice to someone looking at the school—DONT GO THERE!! This is why: I expected Montclair State University to be more challenging than what it is. I can barely put any effort into my classwork and I still get A's. This is OK if you want to go through college not learning anything. But then you get into the real world where you have to compete with other people!! Not good…MSU is a big university with a fair reputation. The campus has been improving (with a lot of building projects) However, with all of these improvements, MSU is taking on many many new students. They have been lowering their standards to accept these new students. Unfortunately, this results in less challenging coursework. I found that many times I am held back from learning in class because the professor has to repeat information that certain students do not comprehend. The administration is not at all helpful with your problems. You are "a number" and your problems don't seem to matter. I have been on the waiting list for honors for a year with almost a 4.0 gpa. However, the program is so small that it cannot accomodate more students. I don't want to seem like just another "complainer" I was excited about attending MSU and at first I loved it. However, all of these situations within my 3 years at the University have just resulted in my anger and frustrations. I cannot wait to graduate from this school, but I must say I regret attending here. I should have picked a school like Rutgers University, TCNJ or Ramapo College. It seems like Montclair State no longer has a good reputation. I predict that a few years down the road…it will be even worse from continuing to lower its admissions standards.
