I don't know where to start!

First off, if you are considering majoring in nursing, education, or business then I'll say that you'll fit in well here. Not only are these programs strong at Adelphi, but a large percentage of the student body are in these majors so you'll have no trouble fitting in. If you are not planning to be a teacher, nurse, or marketing manager, then do more research on other universities. You can come here but don't be surprised that you can hardly find anyone that doesn't want to be a teacher/nurse/owner of a company.

Still on the topic of the student body, most(if not all) of the people here are from Long Island. Yes, it is situated in Garden City but it is still a college and would still expect some diversity. You see African-Americans, Hispanics and Asians roaming around but mainly the student body is Caucasin/white and Italian. To reiterate, the typical Adelphi student is white, Italian and comes from Long Island. If you don't fit this mold, then I don't know what to tell you.

For the most part, the students are extremely vapid. When you go to Adelphi, you would rather see everyone playing on their cellphones and gossiping or suntanning than reading books or having any type of intellectual conversation. In the classrooms, you see a lack of participation in group and class discussions. The professors try their best and although you have some classes where the students are engaged in learning, most have this "get in, get out" type of attitude which I find truly sad.

The professors are excellent and really try to stimulate you. As well, they also (as one reviewer stated) give you chances to make up work in case you've had any personal problems or crises. Overall, the faculty is understanding and outstanding. However, the coursework here compared to other universities can be seen as mediocre and high-school level. If you're looking for a challenge, then look somewhere else.

The campus is extremely beautiful; it is a recognized arbortorium. There are many lovely trees, flowers, and plants that adorn the campus grounds and the lawns are always neatly mowed. However it takes no longer than an hour to tour the entire campus since it is so small in size. If this is your cup of tea, then please visit. You may feel that this allows you to become more personal with the school. If not, you might feel that the size can contribute to a high school atmosphere.

If you are looking to participate in any clubs,I hope you are a night owl! Though there are clubs that meet up during the day, the majority of clubs meet up after 5pm as do many campus events. The school is working on this problem but it is a sad truth that many commuters cannot participate in social activities because the school cannot accommodate them. Personally, I find this strange since 89% of the student body are commuters.

Last but certainly not least is the expense of the school. Adelphi is right when it claims to be a "best buy"…in comparison with other private universities. However it still is very expensive, and expect to come out of here with thousands of dollars in debt. In my opinion, I don't think the quality of education and overall experience here is worth the debt but some people feel differently.
I tried my best to give an unbiased and honest review of the school. All of what I wrote here is the truth; hopefully most students and alumni of Adelphi can agree on what I wrote here. I also tried to be as thorough as possible since choosing colleges can be very tiresome and you need as much information as you can gather. As much research as you do though, remember to ALWAYS VISIT THE SCHOOL!

Hope this proves helpful! Good luck on searching!

P.S. If you do decide to attend here, look into the anthropology department. Even if it is not your major, the classes are very insightful especially with Prof. H. Kim. (I am not an anthropology major; just a recommendation)
