I would not recommend going to MCNY. Here you are not a name and the only number you are is a dollar sign (the money you are bringing in to the school). Academic standards here are a complete joke. I can understand helping non traditional students succeed in life, but many of the students are very ill-prepared for college of any sort.

The major problem with MCNY is the administration. Why would a school with barely 900 students have FIVE Vice Presidents? There is absolutely no reason for all of this administrative overhead. In addition, you have Deans with multiple secretaries, yet many departments are grossly understaffed. There is a serious problem of this institution when…

  • The Financial Aid department consists of only THREE people.
  • The Bursar Department consists of only THREE people.
  • Career Services consists of only TWO people.
  • All of the computer equipment, printers, faxes, etc.
  • being maintained and repaired by an IT HelpDesk which consists of only TWO people.

All of this understaffing, yet there are FIVE Vice Presidents.

    Why?

So there are few people doing a ton of work while the school has an administration who does there own thing, collecting six figure incomes and acting as if all is well. I am seriously surprised that the regular staff has not gone through some any health problems.

Some common sense is also needed at this school. Competitive tuition, updated equipment (a couple of the computer labs are really old and outdated), a faculty that gives a damn (I swear some of the adjunct professors look and act as if they were picked and hired right off the street), Deans that give a damn (I believe that only the MS Ed. Director ACTUALLY visits classrooms and speake to students, I would not know who my Dean was if he/ she was standing in front of me, which is expected for a large school, but not good for this one) and a complete change in the administration (fewer Vice Presidents and adequate staffing). These are the things that will get students to come in and keep them in with the possibility of recommending others in. It is the staffing (a lack of it) that leads to stress and frustration, a major reason why the service here is so pathetic. Some of the staff are very helpful. I am sure that even the helpful individuals could do better with ACTUAL support.
