Colgate students are proud students. And, like many schools in the northeast, Colgate has its preppy kids, upper/middle/lower class kids, devoted athletes, musicians, artists, nature lovers, and Jews; valedictorians and chess experts. Diversity is improving every year and is on par with schools similar to Colgate. Is there room for improvement? What a stupid question. However, I am always impressed with how many international students Colgate has. They're very intelligent and make the campus climate better.

Colgate is not a pushover. You will work damn hard and you will find countless ways to enjoy your time away from classes, even if drinking is the most popular option. The fraternities and sororities have undergone severe changes lately and have become more closely integrated with Colgate to keep that old-time association that was their foundation - to do well for the students, for the school, and for the community. Gone are the days of freshman rush and hazing, as Colgate now owns most houses. There is a way to balance Greek life and campus/academic/community life without being absurdly drunk, injuring someone in the process, and making yourself and Colgate look foolish. Colgate students are realizing they have more pride than that. Don't be shocked with Colgate's rural isoation..it can work in your favor. It is beautiful here!
