First off the university is called The New School For Socail Research not reform. I transfered into lang two and a half years ago. I love it. They are incredibly unorganized when it comes to paperwork so you have to stay on them but it is worth it. The majority of the students are VERY liberal and make it known but you are free to do as you please since there is no real campus you dont have to spend time around anyone you dont want to. Along with there not being a campus the obvious parties arent so in your face but they do exist, they happen often and can get very large (trust me I ended up with three hundred people on my little east village roof one night) so grab a flier, keep your ears open and go. The classes are great if you take the ones you want to be taking. There are very few requirements so this isnt a problem. At Lang you have a lot of freedom so that you can learn what you want to be learning and the classes are very challenging. It takes effort though, the students create most of the classes (there are no lectures only seminars so everyone has to participate with teachers to explain some but mostly are just moderators) and many of us either turned down or left Ivy league schools. Eugene Lang is amazing. Its the school we all love to hate. Everyone I know spends a lot of time complaining about it but couldnt immagine themselves anywhere else. I am concentrating in Fiction Writing the program is wonderful and jam packed with talented writers, both students and teachers.
