Fordham University is truly a 'Princeton in the Bronx' with old collegiate gothic architecture, lovely pathways, and old New York charm that you won't find in the hustle and bustle of nearby Manhattan. The surrounding area of the Bronx itself is a quaint neighborhood lined with New Yorks original Little Italy district, small bars, restaurants, and the massive yet beautiful Botanical Garden next door. Fordham prides itself on its Jesuit heritage and history and you can see that with the numerous academic and residential halls named after the Jesuit forefathers such as St. Ignatius of Loyola and his contemporaries. Education of course is also top notch at Fordham with most professors holding the highest degrees in their fields and small class sizes allow plenty of interaction between faculty and students. It is a relatively small university with a sense of traditional big school academics. However Fordham is becoming a recognizable force in the world of higher education and stands alongside its fellow city schools (New York University, Columbia) as being one of the best universities in the country.
