Hofstra has provided me with a plethora of options reguarding academics, dorms, clubs, and social life. My classes have been challenging, and very thought provoking.

I haven't encountered any busy work. Its mainly been reading, writing research papers or essays, followed by exams. Depending on what class you take the class size will vary. The largest a class ever exceeds is 70 people which isn't as bad as it might sound. The professors I've had so far have been extremely helpful, and make themselves available. As I will mention again, the professors here will make time for you if you need help or don't understand anything. All my professors have emailed me back in a timely manner, and are always willing to make an apointment with me. Remember though there are good and bad professors at any school, or someone will reccomend a professor claiming how amazing they are but once you finally have them, you think

Wow I hate this professor's teaching style

Don't believe the negative comments on this site reguarding HofstraU because 90% aren't true. First off, I have friends from all over the country, I've met people from SoCal, Midwest, Florida, North Carolina, Utah, Washington ETC! Yes there are more students here from NY and NJ, but guess what? It's very accessible to drive here from these areas. Alot of kids commute from LI but to be honest it isn't a big deal, they are here because they chose to come to Hofstra. Rememeber they CHOSE to go to here. Some kids unfortunately are here because they are a)being forced to go here by their parents, b)Didn't get into their first choice school and are looking to transfer, c)Just have high expectations of college life and they are let down because college isn't really the picture the media&society paints it as.

There is a ton of diversity here within the dynamic student body. Noone is the same, there are so many types of people that attend this school, from vegan hippies to gothic intellectuals to normal people! Yes there are those guido type people who dress up to go to a morning class and they attend the bars 4 times a week.

Greek life is pretty popular here. They tend to make themselves out to be a big deal but really they spend all their time partying, and not focusing on philanthrophy. Some people love it and others don't. You don't have to join a sorority or frat in order to have fun at hofstra. There are plenty of people who focus on clubs or groups of friends to engage in fun.

Some complain Hofstra is expensive but what private university isn't? If you do complain about how expensive it is here then take a good look at other national universities that are the same or cost 10K more then HU. Atleast my classes aren't getting canceled because the university can no longer afford it.

The food here is great!!! There is a debit system which I think works out superbly. It is very easy to eat healthy here because there alot of fresh food options. I've had terrific salads, sandwiches, skillet creations, sushi, at Hofstra. You won't be gaining the freshmen 15 here unless you drink alot of alcohol on the weekend.

One last thing, Hofstra isn't for everyone, it's best to visit here on a weekday to get a feel of the university. Some people love it, and other people don't like it at all. It goes the same for every other college in America. Make the best choice for yourself, and take the comments on this site with a grain of salt.
