Major: Business - Management and Administration (This Major's Salary over time)
The social life is extremely poor: a run-down urban surrounding area, decorated with little other than bars, does not combine well with a largely commuter school; dorms and student centers beaten down by security regulations (you get a subtle sense that socializing is a mere privelige allowed for by the domineering security officers); an alcoholic, materialistic, short-sighted student body reminiscent of a community college's; and an embarrassing selection of local eateries. The positives range from a good Business school, Honors program, and NYC connections to a fair range of club, study abroad, and volunteer experiences: assuming you are a student who cares enough to get involved. Those who couldn't care for anything but their heavy weekend partying are not only allowed for systemically but are the average Iona student. Here are a few easy decision criteria: if you don't want to be a heavy drinker in college, stay far away from Iona. If you're not a Business student (and even then you should try your hand at Fordham instead) or part of the Honors program, don't even bother here. Academically Iona is on par with a good community college, SUNY, or CUNY, and in fact many schools of these types will probably have no difficulty trumping Iona—all the while remaining much cheaper. If you are looking for a well-rounded college experience that encourages academic, personal, and social growth, Iona is not for you. The bleakness of campus life is going to count a lot more towards engendering stagnation than it will for broadening horizons. There are still reasons to go to Iona, but there are FAR, far better choices out there.
