I am a second semester Sophomore and I happened to stumble upon this website. I would first like to say that my opinion on why the majority of the comments are negative is because when someone is unhappy, they obviously are going out of their way to explain their experience and why they are unhappy in a way to "warn" others, which is fine. But these posts just come off a little bit biased in my opinion. As far as how I feel about Iona, I love it. I have made many friendships here and I think many will be lifelong. If you are one of those people that loved high school and you're not over the fact that you graduated, I don't think that you will enjoy any college. You have to learn to put high school behind you. I'm not telling you to forget about your friends, but you have to leave yourself open to meeting new people and making new experiences. A word of advice: join something. At Iona, there are many organizations to get involved in. This is a great way to meet new people and find a group of friends to go out with and hangout with all the time. If you don't go out and meet new people, I could guarantee you that the fun will not come to you. First semester freshman get very turned off to Iona because they have a very high expectation of what college is and they are most likely thinking of a state school or big university. I'm not quite sure why people come here and are surprised by the fact that it's a small school. Everyone knows everyone. If you put even a small effort to go out and meet people, you can have a good time here. There are a few bars and a good fake is a must. Trips to NYC once in a while are very fun but again, you will need a fake. As far as house parties are concerned, the cops to break them up a lot. This is mostly because they have not much else to do in this crime-less town (which is a good thing.) If you know people with houses off campus, you will have parties to go to but people don't really want random people in their houses taking up space when their friends could be in your spot. Simple as that. The dorms are fun but if you're loud when you're pregaming or having a party, you most likely will get written up. I would most definitely recommend moving off campus for your junior and senior years because it will then be your turn to throw the parties as often as you want and invite who you want. All in all, think about what you really want before coming to Iona or think about transferring. If you're the person going home every weekend, that's the reason why you aren't having fun. Give it a chance and at least stick it out for the entire year. Don't make any rash decisions after your first semester.
