I know what everyone on this website is thinking. Oh this person is just a loser who stays inside and doesn't have any friends and complains about everything. Well I'm not like that. I promise. I just want everyone to get a REAL understanding of the school. There are good things about Marist but there are also, in my opinion, some bad things. Here are some tips that I wish I got when I came to Marist.

Tips:

  • Don't be the girl or guy to try to hookup with a new person every time you go out. Marist is a small school and you will most definitely run into those people multiple times. Thus creating many awkward moments.
  • Join clubs. I know that's what everyone says but TRUST ME you're going to want to join clubs because they give you priority points. Priority points are your average grades for the 1st semester of freshmen year and clubs or intramural sports you join. The priority points also determine what housing you get sophomore year. It's good not only for housing but also because if you get written up for drinking they take away priority points so if you have a lot of them you will be fine.
  • make friends with a lot of different people because people create their friend groups within the first 3 months and after that its hard to make friends.
  • if you're looking for new creative, individualistic people you will not find them here. Everyone's the same. All into pop music and going to the same club and dancing with ugly guys there.
  • don't get really drunk you're first couple of times going out. If you do get drunk don't go that hard because you're just making friends and stuff and you don't want to turn them away because you're a sloppy drunk and need them to take care of you.
  • everyone. and I mean Everyone smokes weed here so get ready for many fire alarms to go off due to smoking in the rooms and stuff. Also don't try to make friends with the dealers because they're weird and want to smoke with you after you bought from them and it's uncomfortable.
  • you're gonna want to get a fake i.d. But only for getting into clubs and bars and stuff. Don't use it to buy things cause some places are crazy and will take it away.
  • don't get with any guy on the football team. That was the first piece of advice I got when I came here. They're gross and will fuck anything that moves. The team also sucks in general.
  • Everyone takes really sketchy cabs to get everywhere. Actually they're not cabs there more like vans. Marist has the absolute worst transportation and be prepared to spend all your money on cabs and getting into clubs. Make sure you're keeping track of the amount of money you have because you will spend more then you think.
  • if you do not like small schools and seeing the same people over and over again DO NOT COME HERE. Whether it's an awkward hookup, a relationship that ended, or a friendship that went bad, you will see that person everywhere almost everyday.
  • It is a good school for drinking and smoking. Only annoying thing is that there aren't that many places to go out to. And if you go out a lot you will hate the places after the first couple of months.
  • In all Marist is an okay school. I really liked it when I first got here as did a lot of people but I slowly started not liking it. Yes the school is really pretty and the school work and teachers are good but most of the students and the all around atmosphere is pretty shitty. If you are looking for a very small school with people who are pretty much all the same then you will probably like it here.
