President Heager and his posse of bureaucrats have been hard at work "re-invigorating" the campus with endless construction projects and big marketing campaigns. To fund these efforts, retain enormous executive benefits and generally preserve the educational status quo, they have increased tuition or introduced new fees every year for the past five and leveraged parking services and the bursar to strip these monies from students and parents with greater efficiency, while selling off university resources for little to no student gain (Advanced Research and Development building and the Drury Inn/High Country Conference Center—where the only decent parking on north campus used to be). They have also increased departmental workloads while letting vacant positions go unfilled, much to the detriment of students' educational interests.

Some of the more experienced professors saw the writing on the wall when the university offered voluntary retirement packages, and took the opportunity to find greener pastures. Many of the remaining faculty are lazy and self-absorbed (I'm looking at you, Palmer) or just plain inexperienced (half of the Math department) and show little interest in improving themselves. Teachers can now address hand-raising and quiz-taking with minimal effort thanks to "Clickers", now mandatory in some classes (that'll be $25 please). Homework now grades itself thanks to tools like "WebWork", where students can take mathematics tests and quizzes online and teachers can have as little contact with them as possible. Have fun when you put your complex Calculus II answers into the text box, it evaluates to some inexplicable value and tells you simply "WRONG, TRY AGAIN".

Unfortunate that I had to drop thirty grand before I figured out what a sham the Computer Science program is, but during that time I managed to land a job with the university and work my way up to a classified staff position. Now even as a full-time university employee with a decent salary and steep tuition discounts, I cannot afford to go back to class. I cannot even afford to park there!

My advice is to go to community college or study independently. Join a newsgroup or a club or something. Get into your industry and get current, get bleeding edge, just don't get enrolled at NAU unless you have a LOT of money to burn!
