Major: Art & Design Department (This Major's Salary over time)
In my two years at Pratt Institute I have seen the worse a school can do to a person's spirit. Pratt Institute will screw you out of money no matter how few semesters you want to attend here. The office of the registrar, academic advisement, and the bursar are some of the worst individuals I have had to deal with when trying to solve problems. People who get into their satellite schools in Delaware (DCAD) and Utica (Munson Wiliams-Proctor) are lies to when they are told that all their credits will transfer. This is the way Pratt makes it's money. The maintenance of all campus buildings is poor. It took them two decades to finally get the monies to fix the Main building. It's no secret to faculty and students that Communications Design chairperson Joe Roberts comes to work under the influence of alcohol. Joe Roberts is not solely responsible for destroying the spirit of some of the most talented individuals to come into this school, the Provost and the administrators are. Housing and Residential Life does not properly pursue students complains about roommates and living conditions. The school is an adminstrative trap and that's why there is a high incident of drug use, psychological problems, and suicide amongst students. Not peer pressure or some invisible catalyst. The faculty, although 61.5% part time and 8.65% full time, is under paid and their contract is up in August 31, 2003. It's no secret that RISD pays their part-time teachers 20-25% more than Pratt does. Cooper Union pays their faculty 39%-53% more. Where does this money go? Well, no one really knows but I have knowledge that current Pratt President Schutte left his last position at a school under a cloud of scrutiny. Pratt has had a past president and administration that embezzled money two decades ago. Mind you, this president was related to the founder, Charles Pratt. Save your money and go to a state school because $35,000 doesn't mean much to these parasites.
