Major: Video/Media (This Major's Salary over time)
Pratt was the most dreadful year of my life. Despite being a film major, I was forced to do their stupid foundation year. This meant taking useless drawing and 3-D classes that met twice a week and for six hours (that's 24 hours of time wasted each week). The film program was pitiful. All the classes and editing suites were in the basement of the gym. The equipment was horrible, the faculty have no idea what they are doing, and the students were total knuckleheads. As for film theory, my teacher showed us a bunch of shitty experimental pieces that should never see the light of day. The entire program was so fucking hippy-dippy and experimental that my teacher was always surprised when I took the "narrative aproach." There is absolutely no creative environment here. Students do not talk to each other; the only people I hung out with I met during orientation. Which brings me to the social scene: dead. Everybody is such a fucking weirdo. I was so relieved whenever I met a slightly normal person I could relate to and who knew how to hold a conversation. There are no parties on campus because the RAs are all fucking sadistic puritans, so all the parties were off-campus in the Brooklyn ghetto. Everybody here is a bunch of hipster, indie, fuckheads. They're so stupid, literally. My English class was pathetic—nobody could write a coherent sentence. Every once in a while somebody would try to say something profound but it was the most banal, idiotic bullshit. Most of them just doodled or slept though. I felt so sorry for my teacher.

In closing, let me say that Pratt was Hell. When I came back after winter break, and stepped into my prison of a dorm room (made out of cinderblocks, i.e. ugliest dorm ever), and my roommate (one of the few people I liked, who also loathed Pratt and transferred) was gone, I started to cry. The year was half over but the glass was definetely half empty. As you might have guessed, I have also transferred and haven't returned since. Let me break it down: obviously, do not go to Pratt. Furthermore do not go to art school for film and do not even go to art school for art. It is not healthy to be surronded by a bunch of people that are only into one thing, albeit as creative and expressionistic as art. I suggest going to liberal arts or research school; their programs are better, the people are better, and you will come out a much more well-rounded person. To reiterate, if you are at all a normal, slightly intelligent person, avoid Pratt at all costs. If you are a weirdo/loser/high school reject/bonehead, this is the place for you.

What is being so stupid, figuratively?
responseLol someone failed all their classes huh. Sucks you wasted 40k!
responseWe have some of the best art programs in the country and we have the highest ranked alumn salaries in the united states of all art schools. Film however is notoriously the worst major you can possibly take at pratt, and I totally pitied the film students here, but dude just because your education sucked doesn't mean ours does. Good you transferred though.
