Look,
the truth is that you probably won't have “fun” in
the traditional college sense here. There won't be crazy
drunken nights that you don't remember. There won't be random
hookups (unless you're a girl, then maybe). If you
are part of the party scene, you will find yourself
failing out. Fast. However, why are you coming to college
in the first place? If it's to park yourself
for 4 years and to have a good time, choose
a state university. If it's to get a strong
education, then this is the place. You will work,
HARD. You will have more than one night where
sleep is not an option. You will learn that
humans really only need 1.5 hours of sleep and that
at some point, coffee stops working.
At the
end of it all you can take a deep breath
and say “I did it!” Every employer I've interviewed
with in my 8 years post-graduation has raised their eyebrows
and said, “Wow, you went to RPI? You must
be smart!” I have never had trouble finding a
job, even in a tight economy. Neither have any
of my college friends.
If you are serious about your
career and your education, come here. The struggle will
be well worth it in the end.
