I think that you sell the student body of SLU short by calling 90% of them seriously sheltered people and have no real life experiences outside of their parents country clubs and high society. Yes SLU has its fair share of prep-school kids, but there is a far greater population of students that do not fit this mold. The SLU student body is far more diverse than the sweeping generalizations that you offer. I have not had the same experience as you with "townies." I have found people from Canton to be very respectable and open to SLU students. Each friday there is a farmers market down-town that is a perfect time for SLU students to interact with the community and even find out ways to volunteer at a local farm. The football team is doing just fine this year, in fact they won the Liberty League! Its not the same experience as D1 football, but if you go to school looking for a great tailgate scene, you have some questionable motivations. |

SLU is good for academics for the most part. They have alienated some of the better professors that made the school amazing and denied some awesome people tenure for the most tedious reasons. The students for the most part are good people but 90% of them are seriously sheltered people and have no real life experiences outside of their parents country clubs and high society events. There are however some of the most amazing people from all around the world that come to school here. If you are looking for the best times with the best people, live in Sykes in either the I-House or I-Floor. I personally had the best times living there and met some of the best people that I am still good friends with to this very day. Canton is a decent area but a lot of the "townies" are very racist and ignorant. There is very little to do but one thing you have to do is go to the Toc and get kicked out, stop at Sergi's order a fat bag and walk back to campus with a group of good friends! Then once you get back to the dorms order a Mikey's Special from Sergi's and then passout! SLU is a good school but they have had problems with Sexual Assaults over the last several years and it would be wise to pay attention to your surroundings while up there. Football team sucks and I wish that I never even allowed Phelps or the other bum coaches to talk me into going to school there. I transferred to Penn State and had a much better time once I left SLU!
