After graduating from JSU, I applied and wasSuper BrilliantChemistry
After graduating from JSU, I applied and was accepted to UAB in pharmacology/toxicology PhD program. They only accept 2 people per year. In my classes, I found that I knew more on the subjects being taught than the others that had gone to the larger, more "known" universities. I learned a lot from JSU, enjoyed the professors, and believe they put into you what you put into the program. They're always available and willing to help, but you can't just show up (JSU). It doesn't work that way. You have to study and be a good student. Definitely not a gimme degree.

It really is like their motto, the friendliest campus in the south. It's not much to look at- old buildings, but everything is very clean. Good value for your money. It's not perfect, but for a school of less than 10,000 students they do their best with what they have. The people here really make it great. They desperately need new buildings. Football is improving and you won't find a better band anywhere.

Question
Finishing sophomore year here.Quite BrightCommunications
Finishing sophomore year here. Some observations, both good and bad:

Most instructors here are amazing. But I had had a few that are beyond horrible. They are notorious for being bad, both on campus and online as rated by students. It's like there's no middle ground with quality of professors. I guess that's they way at any college. On campus food quality was great until this year, especially Hopper Hall. Sodexo has really messed up this year. Food is bad, and they close when they are supposed to be open- and half the food stations are always empty. There are some really low class inner city students here- guess they are on the Pell or other financial aid. Some really ghetto-like behavior. Most freshmen- they don't seem to last past the first year. Campus police are the nastiest I've seen anywhere. Not helpful or friendly, very heavy handed. All they do is parking enforcement. Notorious for being nasty dudes. That's probably the worst part of JSU.

But some fantastic people here, also. Not a lot of money here. Students generally come from poorer backgrounds than Auburn and UA. Overall, students incredibly nice. A great nurturing friendly campus. Incredible band, and football and other sports are pretty decent. Lots of things to do on this sleepy little campus. Really feels like home.
