I've witnessed title ix violations against undergraduate stuMay 07 2015English
I've witnessed title ix violations against undergraduate students and am no longer shocked by overt racism or sexism expressed by faculty and students alike. The university treats graduates as fodder - stipends are measly, health insurance is poor. "Teaching mentors" spend the majority of their time gossiping about faculty. Many undergrads come from wealthy backgrounds and are taught to treat graduate students as their personal servants. Very little administrative interest in improving graduate experience (I have never, ever had an administrator/email/survey/whatever ask me how to improve graduate students' educational or pedagogical experiences). My advisers are highly accomplished, caring, overworked people. If it weren't for them I'd be out of here so fast...
This university has a lot of thing goingMay 25 2004Industrial Operations Engineering
This university has a lot of thing going for it. It has a great engineering and physics program. It has a great brand new honors college coming, and an up and coming business college, but the rest of the departments are neglected and don't do get much recognition for what they do. The university is constantly speaking of how they are working for the students, but if the choice came between money or the students, we students know that MONEY will win out. The university caters to Wal-Mart at the expense of their students, and the chancellor take every opportunity to wrestle power away from any group that has any to fullfill his vision of the university no matter how off the wall it is. Great university to vist but I wouldn't want to stay here.
I must give all the credit of theDec 06 2003Biology
I must give all the credit of the Biological Sciences department to its faculty. As far as the University is concerned, this department is just another appendage that they ignore since it does not bring in money like football or the Business College. I attended this college as an undergraduate as well, so I have quite a bit of experience with this campus. I have worked in two research labs. One was horrible with rude, arrogent coworkers who constantly picked on each other and were just plain ugly. The second was full of polite people who worked with each other toward a common goal of successful research. Pick your research advisor wisely!

Teachers are not extremely accessible, but in general, this is not their fault. This Universit penalizes teachers who spend too much time with students. As they have been told, their purpose is to bring in money through research...not to help students. They have meetings where they are warned to cut back on office hours, etc. Many teachers have voiced their concerns about this policy, yet it remains the same. Again, the University as a whole is concerned with money...not its students.

Currently the campus is covered in blocked roads. Construction has been underway for the past two years. It will be very nice once completed, but the 8-month project has managed to drag itself out for years. If you live on campus, try for resident reserved. That way, you won't be kicked out of your parking spot when there are home games for football, baseketball, or any other sport. This year they actually sold the correct number of resident reserved spots. Last year they sold more tickets than there were spots. That wasn't a pleasant experience. As a whole, this university is ok. It is the best in Arkansas. Expect to get the run-around quite a bit and to be frustrated with many of its policies. Also expect to get at least $100 in parking tickets either from parking at a parking meter that suddenly reads "fail" instead of the time or from the lot being emptied and your car towed because you had no idea there was a game.
