How To Become a Dietitian

To become a dietitian you must hold at least a bachelors degree at a US accredited college approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. You must complete an internship at a ACEND accredited supervised program at a health care facility, community agency or food service corporation. A typical internship should run at least six months and can run 12 months or more.

Becoming a Certified Dietitian

To become certified you will have graduated a bachelors level program or greater and completed an internship of at least six months. If you have, you can take a register to take a test administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Visit CDR's website. Once becoming certified you will need to maintain your certifications with annual testing and registration fees. In addition to maintaining certifications you may want to look at becoming certified in additional areas of practice.
