The information technology sector has been on fire in recent years. Some of the biggest employers of networking and computer administrators include colleges and universities, public school systems, telecommunications companies, medium to large enterprise companies, data processing and hosting companies, and satellite communications companies.

Oil and gas extraction, petroleum and coal producers, securities and commodities brokerages along with financial investment firms are some of the best paying industries within the networking and computer administration segment.

Information Security

Information security analysts implement security procedures to protect the computer networks and information within organizations. The average median salary for an information security specialist in 2013 was $91k/year with the top 10% earning over $135k/year.

Financial institutions, city, state and federal governments, medium and large corporations all have a need for information security analysts. The ever growing threat of intrusion from competition and thieves has companies on guard around the clock. A career in information security is a secure career.

Information Technology Management

A manager within an information technology department will plan, direct and coordinate the rolling out of new projects, management of existing projects and budgets. Information managers over see departments of people from networking, programming and support. A career in information management is a financially rewarding one with the average salary in 2013 being $132k/year. The top 10% earned over $150k/year.

Industries with the highest level of employment for technology managers include general medium and large corporations, insurance carriers, technical consulting companies, software publishers, commodity and security brokerages, commodity and security exchanges and other information services companies.
