Date: May 30 2002
Major: Music - Composition/Theory (This Major's Salary over time)
My major department is so small that the professors and students inevitably become close. In the end the relationships become more personal than professional, which can be expected at a small college. However, personalities are bound to clash in such an environment. I feel that my creative energies were derided and that my profs neither noticed nor appreciated my energy and enthusiasm. Some profs are helpful and available, while others are incredibly offensive and simply never in their offices. Students at the school are generally friendly but many are snooty, with rods up their butts and Rolls-Royces in their garages. And they let you know it, too. Some of the students are also closeminded, but most are open to differences. To succeed at the school, no matter what your major is nor with which professors you interact, you really do need to "work the system"—brown-nosing is essential because the atmosphere is incredibly competitive.
