The financial offices have been terrible. I've been over-charged by thousands of dollars at times. For the most part, I'd rather not know many students here. They are generally daddy's little boy/girl types. Very wealthy, very superficial. Cliques have developed as a result. Like-minded people tend to find each other quickly and not budge from their groups. The greek types stick with each other, the hippies stick with each other, etc., with slight overlap. I'm a bit of a recluse, so the whole situation works fine by me, but it definitely bothers the social butterflies, the die-hard partiers, and the diversity fiends. As an outdoorsmen, I love this place. Northern California is a mecca of backpacking, rock climbing and the like. As a semi-hippie, I love this place. San Francisco and Berkely are not far away. The bay area is a great place to be no matter who you are, but if you don't have a car, it's easy to get trapped in the Santa Clara bubble. The philosophy department, though small, is excellent. The teachers are intelligent, helpful and willing to discuss any issue. Santa Clara is a beautiful school with academics that extend beyond its reputation. Despite the lack of social activity or school pride, everyone ends up making at least a few close friends, and if we really want to party, only 40 minutes of driving to find all the crazy s&*t you could ever want. I like it here.
