The University of Washington is a great school at a good value—especially for in-state students. The primary draw of the UW is the limitless opportunities: anything you could possibly want to get involved in likely exists and is easy to get into or is a piece of cake to start and get others to participate. It is a first-class research school with lots of opportunity for undergraduate involvement (and not just sample prep or gruntwork either—there are many undergrads doing independent research under faculty mentors). On the downside, if you aren't highly self-motivated it is easy to get left behind here. You ARE after all just one student in 40,000.
