I think that William Jewell is a good school. It has an environment that allows an individual to stay focused with school. This is probably because there is nothing else to do at night on campus or in Liberty. The greek system is an ever present body on campus and, because of this, makes social activity very exclusive, and creates various cliques which I feel are harmful to the college community. I also feel that the amount charged for tuition is too high, and that the school prefers to spend more time, effort, and money on recruiting students than on the ones that are currently enrolled. Although I enjoy WJC, I feel that due to regulations, it has been hard for me to grow and prepare for a life as an adult (visitation rules in the dorms, and not allowing students receiving financial aid to live off of campus until their senior year). A large portion of the student body is comprised of student-athletes; however, the school does little in this area to help promote them, and seems to give little concern to the amount of time, effort, and dedication that it requires to be a student-athlete. Many of the students are very sheltered, and the school does its best to keep them that way. Indeed, many students feel as though they had more freedoms in high school than they now do in college. William Jewell is a good institution, but could probably stand to undergo some changes to make its students happier.
