Date: Jun 19 2004 Major: Mechanical Engineering (This Major's Salary over time) I had a great experience here ten years ago. Lived in the Valleys my first two years, partied a lot, and got comfortable with everything. Junior and Senior year, the real engineering courses got a little more challenging, so living off-campus helped to keep the focus on acedemics (tip: live close enough either the Davis or Lafayette "ghettos" to have fun, just don't live in party central). Look, college is what you make of it. The engineering school at Western presented some great opportunities to get involved in research at the undergrad level that might not have been available at a "name" school. But you have to find those opportunities, take them, and bust your tail to accel. If you coast, you don't have the "name" on your resume to back you up. I interview many BSME and MSME students from Big10 schools with good GPA's and I am often very underwhelmed compared to many of WMU's BSME class of 1996. My only complaint is that they tore down the Knolwood Tavern over by Welborn.
