I transfered to UCSC from a JC, and had the option of going to other UC's. I am really glad that I chose UCSC. So far my first year (as a junior), I have had the opportunity to do 2 field studies and also research assisting. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved if you are so interested. I love the campus becasue of the trees and the natural beauty, but if you are coming from and urban area, this may be a change (hopefully good). The students are generally friendly, it is easy to make friends in classes. However, if you are looking to get involved with frats or sororities or huge "college parties" you should look elsewhere. Check it out in person before you accept, but do that no matter where you go!
