This is a great back up school. I was one of those students who wanted to go to a large school like the UC system, Stanford, etc. After I didn't get accepted to them (my grades were good, but my SAT scores were pretty average), I came to Dominican pretty upset and broken hearted. The best thing about Dominican is you can distinguish yourself from your other students. Smart students excel, recieve grand accolades from their peers & staff, and recieve recognition you would never obtain at a large university. If you are an independent studier, Dominican is a great place because you take your course where you want to go, plenty of outside research projects, and field work await you. The only thing that may deter you from Dominican is the stagnant social environment. You grow close to your peers, but the student population is pretty transitory. You have classes Mon - Thursday and in state students drive home for the weekends. If you are out of state, weekends get kinda lonely. Dominican is expensive, but if you are a student who has great grades and potential, yet you are not being accepted into the larger universitites, I think DU of C may be for you.
