UMn (Chemical Engineering and Materials Science) was an excellent graduate program:
  • Top reputation
  • Excellent labs
  • Strong networks (e.g. access to national and/or industrial labs while a grad student)
  • It's not a program where your hand will be held, but professors are very accessible.

Minneapolis is a great town; relatively inexpensive (compared to the coasts), many cultural opportunities.

Be prepared for solid years of work; you'll have strong fundamentals (in ChemE or MatSci) and among the best research training anywhere.
