I don't know how things used to be here, but there are plenty of things to get involved with. Over the last couple of years there have been multiple concerts and performances by E-40, Ludacris, Lupe Fiasco, comedian Aries Spears (of MadTv) among others right here on campus. So many of the negative claims to the contrary are unfounded. University village has a large movie theatre and plenty of places to eat. Honor societies, clubs, groups, organization, fraternities and sororities are abundant. Layed back atmosphere and diverse; every color under the sun, rich, poor, democrat, republican, smart, dumb, nerdy, cool, friendly, jerk, all are welcome here. Most people are friendly, I only run across jerks in the parking lot trying to find a space. The male/female ratio is good here and there are plenty of attractive females. Sometimes you will meet people in lectures and discussions and in many classes there are group projects that allow you to get to know people. In sequence classes, like language, you will surely get to know people. However, if you have higher aspirations, none of this will matter because your nose should be in the books. One of the biggest challenges is trying to keep my edge and stay away from the distractions. UCR is growing bigger all the time and its already fairly large. There is constant new construction here, not only on campus, but also in the surrounding area. The development of the next UC med school will likely go to UCR and there is also a strong possibility of a law school. I understand that many young people want that 'fairy tale' college experience where you go to the ideal school in the ideal city and you hang out at the beach with your peroxide hair and your swank buddies piled up in the G-wagon. But you know what, that fantasy will never come to fruition, that wet-dream will never bear fruit, that train is never comming in sweetheart. So come to UCR and catch this dose of reality. After you graduate you'll look back through the eyes of a young adult content and never regret it and be better for it. One one the most important lessons is that the world isn't perfect and that the "ideal" only exists in the human psyche, not in reality.
